Help adding my volunteering opportunities

Updated over a week ago

Before you can set your volunteering page and volunteering opportunities live for employees to get involved in, you’ll need to create these and tell the story behind your organisation to start attracting employees.

Project details

One of the most important things you'll need to do is tell the story behind your organisation.

Make the most of the opportunity to connect with potential volunteers with a well-written story that is engaging, structured and concise. You don’t want to end up with a massively long project page, but you also need to ensure you’re providing enough detail to capture employees attention. It’s a balancing act! Alongside the written text, pictures can also help to add colour and personality to your story.

Top tips

Organising your story into short sections will make your project page much easier to read. Use headings to break it up and direct employees to where they can find the information they’re looking for. You can also use bullet points for lists, along with the bold tool to highlight key points.

When it comes to connecting with people on your page, visuals play a big part too. Add lots of photos, as well as any other images that help to make your volunteering project shine. These might include infographics, maps, design sketches and team photos.

Sharing your project

Add links to your social media pages, so employees can get to know your organisation even better. These are optional so don’t panic if you don’t want to or don't have anything set up.

Your opportunities

Now you’re ready to start adding your volunteering opportunities ready to recruit employees.

There is no limit to the number of volunteering opportunities you can add - although remember you do have to manage them and keep the information up to date.

We’d recommend having different volunteering opportunities for different tasks e.g. You may want someone with financial experience to help you with the books for the quarter (one opportunity) and someone else to provide training on using social media (another opportunity).

If you have an ongoing opportunity such as tree planting over a period of time e.g weekly during January and February, you’ll need to add these as individual opportunities. This enables employees to sign up to the specific week they can volunteer and you’ll be able to keep track of how many people to expect. If you need some support running a money management course every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon for 6 weeks you’d add this as one opportunity so the employee is aware of the hours they’ll need to commit too.

Once you’ve completed all the details on the opportunity, the next step is to click the ‘make opportunity live’ button. As long as all the required sections on your dashboard have been filled out then you’ll be able to set your volunteering page and opportunities live to start recruiting Aviva employees.

Top tips

Once your opportunity has its first applicant, you'll no longer be able to edit it - so make sure you’re happy with the opportunity before making it live!

You’ll need to have a minimum of 1 volunteering opportunity uploaded to choose from to be able to set your volunteering page live so employees can find you.
