What is the role of public funding in supporting these projects?
Updated over a year ago

To fulfil the government’s domestic ambition and targets on nature recovery, private investment can play an important role alongside public funding. Government has set a goal to raise over £500 million per year in private investment for nature’s recovery by 2027, rising to over £1 billion by 2030.

Without government action, private finance will not flow credibly and at scale into nature’s recovery. All projects listed on the Projects for Nature platform have already received public funding and one of the aims of the platform is to explore what additional actions businesses are willing to fund under corporate donations.

From this pilot we seek to gain valuable insights into how we can best engage businesses in supporting nature recovery and understand more about the potential contribution of corporate donations in amplifying public funding and delivering our nature ambitions. We hope these insights will be of benefit to all of us and should the pilot prove successful, that there will be more opportunities in the future.
