Restoring nature will require finance from all sources and a systemic shift in the global financial system, away from activities that harm nature, towards those that restore nature. Currently, most of the funding for nature recovery comes from public funding. The gap between current funding to restore nature and the funding needed is called the nature finance gap:
The global estimated finance gap is $4.1 trillion by 2050.
The UK’s estimated finance gap is £44-97 billion over the next 10 years
England’s estimated finance gap is £21-53 billion over the next 10 years
