We recommend a maximum project length of 12 weeks or 84 days, however we also believe that around 6 weeks is the ideal length of time to keep your supporters engaged with your campaign if you have a specific goal in mind. If your project runs for too long, the more challenging it becomes to maintain momentum.
Remember that there's usually a spike in activity at the beginning and end of your project. The shorter the period of time between these start and end points, the easier it is for you to create a sense of urgency and excitement — and also to raise funds!
When choosing your launch date, make sure you consider any major calendar events that might be coming up, such as bank holidays or school holidays. You might be able to harness these to build more supporter interest, but also be aware that these might distract backers from your campaign.
Finally, when selecting the time of day you wish to launch, keep in mind that your project will end at the same time of day on your closing date. It helps if you choose a time that gives you a chance to give your project a final push.
Can I extend my project for longer than 12 weeks?
Yes, you can. If you have a specific new close date in mind, you will need to contact us so that we can make the change. Please note that our payment provider Stripe can not hold funds for longer than 3 months. This means for us to extend your project beyond 12 weeks we will need to either action an early payout for you or switch your project to Always on. With both these options, once actioned, the funds you have raised so far from the crowd will be paid out to you within 7 working days. You will receive payouts of any future pledges on a rolling basis, once the initial payout has been received. By doing this, Crowdfunder will no longer be responsible for any refunds on your live project, and it will therefore be your responsibility to manage any requests for a refund directly with your supporters.
💡 Please note if you are running a prize draw, community shares project or have +Extra funding from one of our partners, different rules around project durations and extensions may apply.
Alternatively, you can continue to accept donations after your close date by switching to Always on. This is a brilliant option to make sure you don't miss out on donations from people who discover your project page after your close date. Your project will remain Always on forever!
Look out for this toggle to ensure your project switches to Always on after its close date.
What is the difference between an early payout and Always on?
The Always on function enables Crowdfunder projects to continue raising funds once their project has closed successfully. The following green logo signifies that a project is Always on and there is no specific closing date. Bear in mind that you are unable to have rewards running on Always on projects, however, you do get complete control of your close date. This option may be suitable if you have a large long-term goal and are unsure when you may meet your target.
What are the benefits of Always on?
Keep raising funds post-campaign for as long as you like
Continue telling your story and build on your project's success
Having the control to close your project whenever you like and not needing to contact us for any date changes
The early payout option enables you to stay open as usual. Your project page will look exactly the same with just a change in the original closing date. This option may be suitable if you are really close to your target and just need a little bit more time for that extra push.
What are the key benefits of an early payout?
You can keep your rewards live on your project
Your project will still show your target and closing date to your audience
How long does my project remain on Crowdfunder after it's closed?
We never remove projects from the Crowdfunder platform. They remain accessible and visible to the public for future reference and transparency. If you want to remove your project from our site, you can request this by getting in touch via our contact form: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/contact-us
💡 Please note that deleting your Crowdfunder account will NOT delete your project.
