Crowdfunder Fees: How A Donation Helps a Project š°
Crowdfunder's mission is to help great ideas happen. Our fees are simple: we charge the project, not the person donating. This ensures we can run a safe and reliable platform for everyone.
The fees are taken from the total amount a project raises. This means the project owner gets the donation amount minus these fees. The fees are deducted from the payouts that a project receives.
There are three main fees:
Platform Fee: This is a percentage of the total money raised. It only applies to some projects, like For-profit businesses.
Transaction Fee: This fee applies to every donation. It covers the cost of processing a payment. It's a small percentage of a donation plus a few pennies. The rate depends on if the donation is from the UK/EU or another country.
Match Funding Fee: This fee can apply if a project receives Match Funding from Crowdfunder's partners.
Example: A £10 Donation to a Charity
Here's how a £10 donation works for a charity which has no platform fee.
Let's say someone donates £10 using a UK card:
Donation Amount: £10.00
Transaction Fee: £0.19 (1.9% of £10)
Fixed Transaction Fee: £0.20
VAT on Fees (20%): £0.08
Total Fees: £0.47
Amount the charity receives: £9.53
So, out of a £10 donation, £9.53 goes directly to the charity. If you add Gift Aid to that donation, the total amount received by the charity is £9.53 + £2.50 = £12.03
Fees for Different Projects
The fees change depending on the project type. Here's a quick look at how a £10 donation is affected by different project types.
Charity Profiles & Fundraisers: The project gets £9.53
Personal Fundraisers, Not-for-profit Community Projects, Social Enterprises: The project gets £9.47
For-profit Businesses: The project gets £8.87
Gift Aid & Tipping
Optional Tipping: When you donate, you might be asked to leave an optional tip for Crowdfunder. This tip is separate from your donation and helps us keep our platform running. It helps us to keep our platform fees free for most projects.
Gift Aid: If you are a UK taxpayer and the project is a registered charity, you can add Gift Aid. This lets the charity claim an extra 25% from the government, at no extra cost to you. We don't charge a fee on this extra money, so 100% of the Gift Aid goes to the charity.
